URBAN STAGE
SCISSOR TAIL PERFORMING ARTS
Arch 3216
*COMPETITION WINNER*
LOCATION: OKLAHOMA CITY
DATE: 2018
TYPE: COMMUNITY / PERFORMING ARTS
PROBLEM:
In Oklahoma City, adjacent to the Skydance Bridge and the lower section of Scissortail park, lies a rip in the fabric of the community. Highway I-40 has turned into a barrier, creating economic and cultural separation between affluent Downtown OKC, and the dilapidated Latino neighborhoods. A community preforming arts center is needed to stitch back together the urban fabric and rehabilitate the broken community.
sOLUTION:
This project is an “URBAN STAGE” for the performance of everyday life, something more than just a theater with superficial accommodations for the community. Something more than just a theater to serve the wealthy 100 days of the year - what about the other 265? What about a single mother taking her kids to the park for her lunch break on a Wednesday afternoon? What about a group of friends enjoying a cup of coffee before work? What about a family of 4 enjoying dinner? URBAN STAGE is about capturing these moments and elevating them to the significance they deserve.
